We’ve all been there: you send a gift to a loved one or a product to a buyer, only for it to arrive crushed or broken. While courier services take great care in handling packages, the journey from Point A to Point B involves movement, sorting machines, and vehicles.

Proper packaging is your first line of defense. Here is your checklist for a safe shipment.

1. Choose the Right Box

Don’t rely on a worn-out shoe box.

  • New is better: Used boxes lose structural integrity.

  • Size matters: The box should be just big enough for the item plus cushioning. Too big, and the item bounces; too small, and it bursts.

2. Cushioning is Key

Newspaper is okay for moving house, but not for shipping. Use bubble wrap, packing peanuts, or air pillows.

Pro Tip: Shake the box gently after packing. If you hear the item moving inside, you need more padding.

3. The H-Tape Method

Don’t just put one strip of tape across the top. Use the “H-Tape” method:

  • Tape along the center seam.

  • Tape along the two side seams.

  • This creates an “H” shape that reinforces the box flaps.

4. Clear Labeling

Ensure the old barcodes on reused boxes are completely covered or removed. Place the label on the largest flat surface of the box, never over a seam or a corner.
